On 16 July 2026, a partnership agreement was signed between Energa Wytwarzanie and the Municipality of Potęgowo, including its organizational units. The established Potęgowo Energy Cooperative aims to develop decentralized local energy systems by utilizing renewable energy sources - small hydropower plants and photovoltaic installations - to meet the energy needs of the local government and the community.

This Cooperative is implemented as part of the regional strategic initiative "Pomeranian Archipelago of Energy Islands", carried out in collaboration with the Self-Government of the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Northern Poland.

This partnership represents an important step in the local energy transition. By integrating electricity generated from small hydropower plants with existing photovoltaic installations, the cooperative is expected to achieve a high level of local energy self-consumption, strengthen the municipality's energy security and reduce electricity costs for municipal facilities. At the same time, the initiative improves the economic viability of small hydropower plants through a new business model based on local energy communities.

Moreover, this initiative extends beyond energy production. It includes educational activities promoting renewable energy, the development of projects aimed at attracting external funding, and plans to establish the European Centre for Energy Innovation, which will bring together local government, businesses, research institutions, the energy sector, and residents. Overall, the project serves as a model for leveraging local renewable energy resources to build resilient, sustainable and community-based energy systems.
