From 25- 28 August 2026, the European Sociological Association (ESA) is organising the 17th ESA Conference, bringing together over 3800 researchers from all across the world in Warsaw, Poland. Held biennially, this meeting provides a platform for discussions and knowledge exchange on social themes in the European context as well as networking between sociologists and other scientists. 

Titled “Strengthening Democracies: Social Action, Solidarity, and Sustainable Futures”, this year’s edition will address social inequalities, global crises, democracy and sustainability, focusing on themes including (but not limited to):

• the contribution of social sciences to strengthening democracies;
• tools and strategies for social transformation;
• the role of sociologists in effecting positive change during times of crises and in changing social landscapes;
• the impact of public sociology and creative approaches in fostering dialogue for more democratic and inclusive societies.

During this conference, DeCrises members - Aistė Balžekienė, Audronė Telešienė, Natalia Bełdyga and Asta Jurgutė (KTU), will deliver a presentation on the role of civil society in the green transition, with a focus on the Baltic Sea region.
